sourcing | know your farmer
We believe that coffee only truly tastes good if the people growing it are cared for, the communities surrounding it are considered, and the earth it comes from is sustained. Our coffees are sourced in one of three ways | direct. relational. fair
Direct | PC Coffees labeled direct means 4 things. One, we communicate directly with the farm for pricing and pay above fair trade minimums. Two, we have traveled to the farm. Three, all evidence points to ethical labor practices and sustainable growing methods. Four, the crop is quality producing a profoundly good cup.
Relational | PC Coffees labeled as relational signifies that we work through another direct trade roaster or small importer to ensure prices are premium for the grower, labor practices are ethical, growing methods are sustainable, and quality is excellent. The end goal is to transition relational coffees to direct trade.
Fair | PC Coffees labeled fair trade means they carry the certified fair trade label. Fair Trade certified coffee comes from small family farms through a cooperative, pays the established fair trade minimums, and uses sustainable growing practices. You will most often see PC Decaf labeled as fair.
As a little guy it will take time for us to be able to visit more farms. Our goal is to offer more and more direct trade coffees as time goes on. Until our direct trade criteria is met our coffees will be relational or fair.
roasting | take the time it takes
We believe that small and fresh are the best ways to capture the full flavor of specialty coffee. Second to profoundly good sourcing, we believe craft roasting is the best way to honor the farmers who grow our coffee and deliver the freshest roasted beans possible to Porch Culture patrons.
There is no auto-pilot with craft roasting. It is both an art and a science. Every crop is profiled and cupped to determined the best roasting levels for that particular bean. Freshness is at the core of our roasting philosophy, which is why you will find a roasting date stamped on every bag of Porch Culture Coffee.
We take the time it takes to roast profoundly good coffee.
story | let goodness run wild
We believe all of us have the opportunity to tell a better story through the way we live and the choices we make. For us that means keeping people at the center of what we do. This happens not only through how we source and roast our coffee but also through giving to redemptive work both locally and globally.
Our passion for coffee is intertwined with our passion for education and community restoration. For this reason $3 from every bag of coffee sold online is given to the Doulos Discovery School or one of our local non-profit partners.
Coffee is our story of adventure and we aren’t looking to play it safe. Through unconventional methods, slow growth, and community involvement we aim to let goodness run wild.
